Second Amendment Opposition Supporter Dick’s Sporting Goods Gets Dicked


When ever there is a battle going on it does not seem unusual for there to be a Benedict Arnold or two who are willing to switch sides or make a deal with the other side for preferential treatment. When it comes to the war going on between those who wish to see tighter gun control laws and those who are trying to hold to their second amendment constitutional rights, the role of Benedict Arnold goes to a store chain called Dick’s Sporting Goods. Two months ago in an effort to appease those who stand against the second amendment, Dick’s CEO and Chairman Ed Stack released an open letter to the public where he announced that the company would be making several changes in how they do business. The new policies did not only affect Dick’s Sporting Goods. They also affected their subsidiary company Field & Stream. Dick’s also owns a franchise called Golf Galaxy.

It did not take long for Dick’s Sporting Goods to decide to give the dick to those who stand in support of the second amendment. They had decided that they would no longer sell certain models of semi automatic hunting rifles and capacity magazines. Despite what the second amendment states Dick’s Sporting Goods almost made the decision to no longer sell fire arms to customers between the ages of 18 years old and 20. In plain english people, Dick’s Sporting Goods decided to be a dick. Walmart and other stores followed their example just a few days after the CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods released his letter.

Rather than standing by a large number of their customers Dick’s Sporting Goods decided to stand against American freedom. If we were to all listen to what those who stand against the second amendment want us to believe then we would believe that the number of school shootings have been going up. On the contrary, statistically speaking the number of school shootings have actually gone down since the 1990s. In the last 22 years there have only been 16 multiple victim shootings at schools or incidents that involved four or more victims. While on average 20 to 30 mass murders appear to happen per year, only one of those 20 to 30 is a school shooting. Over twice as many children were killed in schools during the 1990s than there are being killed today. I will present one example. In 1989, a shooter killed five and injured 32 elementary school children in Stockton, California, by targeting them on the playground.

According to crime data from the FBI there were 374 murders committed with all types of rifles in 2016. That same year almost twice at 656 victims, almost twice as many people were killed in incidents where the killer used only their hands and feet. Over a thousand people found themselves killed by knives and other sharp objects. Baseball bats, golf clubs, and other blunt objects were the weapon of choice in the killings of 472 people. While such numbers and statistics are clearly in favor of those who favor the second amendment, they were not enough to stop Dick’s from dicking us around and violating our second amendment rights.

On top of ceasing the sells of most center fire semi-automatic rifles at their stores, carrying only limited capacity magazines for semi automatic guns, and banning the fire arm sells to certain legal adults who met the criteria to legally be able to purchase a fire arm, they took things even further. Dick’s Sporting Goods destroyed their inventory of fire arms that they took it upon themselves to ban the sell of at their own expense. As though they had not betrayed a large number of their customer base enough they also hired lobbyist in D.C. to push for tighter gun control.

The customers who have been getting dicked around by Dick’s Sporting Goods have decided to not tolerate it any longer. It is time for Dick’s Sporting Goods to be the ones who are dicked around. Those in favor of the second amendment are now matching the moves of Dick’s Sporting Goods with some maneuvers of their own. A lot of them have decided to take their business else where.

After a unanimous vote last week Dick’s Sporting Goods found itself removed from the National Shooting Sports Foundation. The NSSF is a trade association for fire arms, ammunition, hunting, and shooting sports industries. The NSSF fully supports the right of its members to make their own decisions. However, with their recent developments Dick’s Sporting Goods has completely alienated its own company from the rest of the group. The NSSF feels that Dick’s Sporting Goods has lost sight of the reality of law abiding gun owners. It is believed that the measures taken by Dick’s Sporting Goods are a detriment to the best interest of the foundation.

Just like Walmart and other stores followed the example set by Dick’s Sporting Goods, others have also followed the example of the NSSF in separating themselves from this company. Members of the fire arms community have already begun pulling their products from Dick’s Sporting Goods as well as Field & Stream. A company based out of Illinois called Spring Field Armory announced just earlier this month that they are severing all ties with Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Unlike Dicks Sporting Good’s, Spring Field Armory is completely standing behind their customers rights to legally possess fire arms. They made an announcement that stated, “we believe in the rights and principles fought for and secured by American patriots and our founding forefathers, without question. We will not accept Dick’s Sporting Goods’ continued attempts to deny Second Amendment freedoms to our fellow Americans.”

Another company that is following the example of the NSSF is O.F. Mossberg & Sons. They are no longer accepting any business from Dick’s Sporting Goods or Field & Stream in the future. While they have ended any chance of Dick’s Sporting Goods having business with them in the future they are also looking to try to bring any current contractual agreements with the company to a grinding halt. They also stand behind their customers and the second amendment of the United States of America.

The trouble for Dick’s Sporting Goods does not stop there. MKS Supply, marketer of Hi-Point Firearms and Inland Manufacturing, LLC, has now become the latest supplier to cut off Dick’s and Field & Stream. They defend their decision to bring an end to their business relationship with Dick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary Field & Stream in a statement when company President Charles Brown said, “Dick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary, Field & Stream, have shown themselves, in our opinion, to be no friend of Americans’ Second Amendment.” He used several examples of decisions and moves that Dick’s Sporting Goods has made in the last couple months to support his stance. A couple of the examples that he gave was Dick’s Sporting Goods choice to vilify modern sporting rifles in response to pressure from uninformed, anti-gun voices, and their choice to hire lobbyists to oppose American citizens’ freedoms secured by the Second Amendment.

These measures are hitting Dick’s Sporting Goods at a time when they are vulnerable to attack. The value of their company shares has dropped 6.3% and it looks as though they will keep losing value. Dick’s Sporting Goods, you chose the wrong side friend. If you take any lesson from this experience let it be this one. Don’t be a dick, Dick.
