Breaking: Former Libertarian Presidential Candidate To Run For Arizona Governor

In a press release first available to Halsey News, former 2016 Libertarian Party presidential candidate Kevin McCormick has announced his intentions to run for Governor of Arizona on the Libertarian Party ticket once again.

Scottsdale, AZ, September 13, 2017– Technology professional, former Libertarian Presidential candidate, and liberty activist, Kevin McCormick, will be announcing his run for Governor of the Grand Canyon State on September 14, 2017. Dedicated to creating an environment of economic liberty, prosperity, and innovation, McCormick believes that new leadership is required to break up crony partnerships between the Arizona Government, the bureaucracy, and corporations.

McCormick’s campaign will be data focused and will utilize innovative and out-of-the-box campaign techniques to reach the growing under 35 vote. Economic freedom, and the hope of prosperity in the future depends on a Governor who is not beholden to big donors and crony partners, Kevin will seek “Clean Election” dollars to only be beholden to the voters of Arizona.

In citing his reason for running once again, McCormick commented:

“Economic freedom, innovation, and prosperity in this increasingly interconnected word requires new leadership that values that embrace technology and disruptive economic trends. With my background and principles of Liberty, I am that leader.”

McCormick was one of the last candidates to enter the Libertarian Party last year, and made an impressive last minute run against the more favored trio of tech mogul John McAfee, media entrepreneur Austin Petersen, and the eventual nominee Gov. Gary Johnson. McCormick had a follow on campaign for the Arizona state legislature but was unable to gather the number of signatures needed to appear on the ballot. McCormick currently faces a Libertarian primary for the Governor’s nomination in the following months against family rights advocate Merissa Hamilton.

In an exclusive interview with McCormick moments after the release, I asked him why after two attempts to run as a 3rd party candidate prior, he did not choose to run in either of the two major parties as other former Libertarians (such as current Republican candidate for US Senate Austin Petersen in Missouri) have been deciding to as of late. “The Republican and Democratic parties in Arizona are run by special interests that go against the interest of the tax payers on both sides of the aisle” McCormick remarked, “I’m also running as the only clean election candidate which means I will be 100% funded by the people.”

According to the Citizens Clean Election Commission which McCormick referenced:

The Citizens Clean Elections Act, passed by voters in 1998, is administered by a five member, non-partisan Commission. The Act established a system for voter education, clean funding for candidate campaigns and campaign finance enforcement. The purpose of the Act is to restore citizen participation and confidence in our political system, improve the integrity of Arizona State government and promote freedom of speech under the U.S. and Arizona Constitutions.

When asked how he would be able to reach out to the drastically increasing split ticket and independent voters, McCormick stated “I am the candidate the independent voter is looking for; in Arizona we have a deep love and appreciation for our civil liberties which is important to our identity as a state, and the Democrats and Republicans simply put, are not paying attention anymore.”
